Handcrafted Leather Goods

This all started as a hobby, and purely by accident. I was recovering from heart surgery, and I wasn’t allowed to work during my month-long rehab. Who knew that there were so many interesting things to learn on YouTube? Well, I got hooked. I started out slowly but when I discovered that I could follow along and make something cool there was no stopping me. Of course, that meant I needed just a few simple tools. And some fine quality leather. And it was all out there on “the Googles” just waiting to be had.

My favorite part of leather crafting is the stitching. Everything I make is done completely by hand, with each stitch punched into the leather with a hammer and a hole punch tool. And that can be tedious and time-consuming. But in a strange and wonderful way it is also relaxing, like meditation. But the bonus is at the end of the journey, I’ve created something that will last a very long time and chances are will only improve with age.
